【摘要】:Theconsistentperformanceofhydrocarbonlubricantbaseoilsisacriticalfactorinawidevarietyofapplicationssuchasengineoils,industriallubricants,andmetalworkingfluids.Inaddition,inmanyoftheseapplicationshumansareexposedtothebaseoilsasacomponentofaformulatedproductsuchthathealthorsafetyconsiderationsmayneedtobeaddressed.Thisguidesuggestsacompilationofpropertiesandpotentialcontaminantsthatareunderstoodbythoseknowledgeableinthemanufactureanduseofhydrocarbonlubricantstobeofsignificanceinsomeorallapplications.AdiscussionofeachofthesuggestedpropertiesandpotentialcontaminantsisprovidedinAppendixX1,witheachlistedalphabeticallywithinfourcategories.Potentialsourcesofbaseoilvariationincludetherawmaterial,manufacturingprocess,operatingconditions,storage,transportation,andblending.Thetestmethods,baseoilproperties,andpotentialcontaminantssuggestedarethosethatwouldlikelybeusefulinmanycommonsituations,althoughitisrecognizedthattherearespecificapplicationsandsituationsthatcouldhavedifferentrequirements.Performancetestingrelatedtothespecificapplicationshouldserveasthebasisforacceptability.Issuessuchasfrequencyoftestingandthespecificsofhowthetestresultsaretobeappliedarenotaddressedindetail.Itistheresponsibilityofthebuyerandsellertodetermineandagreeupontheimplementationofthisguide.Thisguideservesasabasisforthatdiscussion.1.1Thisguidesuggestsphysical,chemical,andtoxicologicaltestmethodsforcharacterizinghydrocarbonlubricantbaseoilsderivedfromvariousrefiningprocessesincludingre-refiningusedoilsandrefiningcrudeoil.Thisguidedoesnotpurporttocoveralltestswhichcouldbeemployed.Itistheresponsibilityofthebuyerandsellertodetermineandagreeupontheimplementationofthisguide.1.2Thisguideappliesonlytobaseoilsandnottofinishedlubricants.1.3Thisguideisrelevanttobaseoilscomposedofhydrocarbonsandintendedforuseinformulatingproductsincludingautomotiveandindustriallubricants.Thesebaseoilswouldtypicallyhaveaviscosityofapproximately2to40mm2/s(cSt)at100x00B0;C(50to3740SUSat100x00B0;F).1.4ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
